Medevac off Bermudas

Sep 22, 2016 10:51

The "Corvette" diverted to Bermuda on Sep 20, 2016, due to an ill crew member. On Sep 20 at 1.30 p.m., the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a call from the Meyer Shipping Agency advising that the LPG tanker was inbound to Bermuda to disembark an ill crew member, a Filipino national, who had been suffering from severe bouts of coughing since joining the vessel, showing no sign of improvement following medical advice from ashore and administration of medicines on-board. The "Corvette", originally en route from Port Arthur bound for Tarragona, diverted from a position 64 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, for patient disembarkation in the evening. Shortly after 6.00 p.m., the patient was transferred via the pilot boat "St. David" to Ordnance Island, and taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Scrubbers Installed on Newbuild Gas Carrier

Jan 16, 2015 10:39

The ECO VLGC Corvette, delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries on January 2, 2015, is fitted with a Class and Flag State approved exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) provided by Clean Marine. The measurements of exhaust gas emission and washwater criteria are well below the required limits stated in the MEPC guideline 184(59). This ensures vessel compliancy with the 0.1% sulphur limit in ECAs, which has been in place from January 1 this year. The vessel is also compliant with the stricter U.S. EPA requirements of a pH above 6 in washwater, measured at the outlet. The vessel’s Class Society ABS, on behalf of the Bahamas Flag, issued a formal letter on January 8, 2015, confirming that the EGCS complies with “Scheme B – EGC System Approval, Survey and Certification Using Continuous Monitoring of SOx Emissions” of the IMO Resolution MEPC.184(59), 2009 Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems. The approved EGCS will enable the new Dorian LPG vessel to comply with current and future legislation relating to sulphur emissions without switching to more expensive fuels, Clean Marine noted.
