Corail-Express

On Jan 3, 2025, shortly after 9:00 a.m. a fire broke out in the port side main engine of the 'Corail Express' at the Bergevin station in Pointe-à-Pitre with 424 people on board. The captain decided to immediately return to the dock and alert the fire brigade. The evacuation operations then proceeded calmly for all 415 passengers and nine crew members, all of whom escaped unharmed. Initially, the crew implemented emergency safety measures, isolating and compartmentalizing the ship's diesel fuel supply to prevent any risk of explosion. Firefighters from the main fire station in Pointe-à-Pitre quickly responded to the scene with significant ressources, including a high-lift truck and a thermal imaging camera. Their first task was to conduct a thorough reconnaissance of the affected area to locate the source of the fire. At 11:19 a.m., after verifying with the thermal imaging camera that there were no remaining hotspots, the firefighters were able to declare the fire completely extinguished.
