Container ship in collision with autonomous vessel
The autonomous container barge 'River Drone 5' (MMSI: 205565590), en route from Rotterdam to the Gent Canal, was in collision with the container ship 'Containerships VIII' (IMO: 9336244), which was en route from the Prins Willem Alexander Haven to the Hutchison ECT Delta Terminal in Rotterdam, on Het Scheur at Maaassluison Dec 5, 2024, at around 06:15 a,m, A number containers fell into the water from the autonomous vessel, which was manned at that time, and washed up on the Koning Willem-Alexander Boulevard in Maassluis. The containers were empty, and one of the boxes was open, causing it to fill with water. Due to the receding water, four containers have since got stuck. Boats from the port authority were looking for more containers; on the Maassluis side. The patrol boat 'RWS 71' of Rijkswaterstaat was monitoring the site. The crane ship 'Hebo Cat 7' was tasked with the recovery of the containers. Container ship disabled in Kiel Canal
Enroute from Rotterdam to Helsinki the "Containerships VIII" was disabled by an engine failure during the transit of the Kiel Canal on Jan 21, 2017. The ship was stuck at Breiholz. The crew managed to restart the engine two hours after the trouble occurred after the exchange of the fuel pipe, and the vessel continued the voyage, arriving in Helsinki on Jan 23 at 7 a.m.
Boxship disabled in Elbe estuary
Enroute from Rotterdam to Kotka the "Containerships 8" suffered a technical failure in the Elbe estuary in the afternoon of Dec 7, 2016, and was taken in tow by the tug "Wulf 7" (IMO: 9183075) on the outer Elbe roads. Also the tug "Bugsier 15" (IMO: 9021112), came to assist as stern tug. The ship was pulled to Cuxhaven where it was berthed at the Steubenhöft at 6.15 p.m.
