Two ships lost containers in storm Goretti
A number of containers fell overboard from two separate vessels, the Liberian-flagged reefer 'Lombok Strait' (IMO: 9204958), en route from Portsmouth, UK, to Bridgetown with an ETA as of Jan 18, and the 'Condor Valaparaiso', enroute from Antwerp to Aviles with an ETA as of Jan 11, off the coast of the Isle of Wight within the space of an hour late on Jan 8, 2026, between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, one off the Nab Tower and another about 16 nautical miles of St Catherine’s Point. Around 3:30 a.m., the 'Condor Valparaiso', while navigating in the southbound traffic separation scheme (TSS). reported losing seven empty containers about 16 nautical miles south of St Catherine’s Point, Isle of Wight. The HM Coastguard was monitoring the situation closely and has sent a fixed-wing aircraft at 10 a.m. from the Newquay Airport, which was scouring the eastern coast of the Isle of Wight. Any sightings of containers should be reported to Solent Coastguard on 0344 382 0560 or on VHF radio. At around 6:30 a.m. the 'Lombok Strait' reported the loss of 25 containers. Relocation and recovery operations by air were currently underway for these navigational hazards, all located in waters under British jurisdiction. A fixed-wing coastguard aircraft carried out further searches on Jan 10. Up to seven containers from theCondor Valpariaiso' have been identified floating south-east of the Isle of Wight, while the containers from the 'Lombok Strait' were believed to have sunk,
Carog ship suffered container loss
The "Condor Valparaiso" lost nine empty 20 feet containers in position 25 35 N, 043 01 W, on Feb 6, 2019, at 12.20 a.m. The vessel was proceeding to Dover with an ETA as of Feb 14, 2 p.m. after having been granted permission to enter the Port of Dover. It had sailed from Bridgetown on Feb 1. On Feb 15 it left port again, bound to Hamburg, ETA Feb 17.
Allision in Antwerp
In the port of Antwerp, the "Condor Valparaiso", coming from Hamburg, stopped too late and allided with a gate of the Boudewijn lock at the south side of the canal dock in the morning of June 18, 2018. The lock was temporarily out of use. A diver was sent for surveys, who found a dent in the lock 3 under the waterline. A replacement gate was then taken into use, so that the lock could be used again for shipping at 10 a.m. The ship was not damaged and could continue sailing. It berthed in the Churchill dock at 7.40 a.m.
