Trawler identified during illegal fishing
The Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA) identified the "Coimbra" being engaged in illegal fishing within Argentina's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The detection was made possible by the Coast Guard System. The vessel, which had departed from Uruguay on Feb 25, 2026, was intercepted near Cabo Dos BahÃas, in the province of Chubut. Security force experts determined that the vessel performed suspicious maneuvers while navigating at an average speed of 4.9 knots within jurisdictional waters. This speed was considered consistent with the operation of trawling nets and not with "innocent passage," which constituted a presumed violation of the Federal Fisheries Regime. Under the new regulations in effect since February, electronic evidence was legally valid for penalising violators without the need for a physical boarding.
