Three ships damaged in Ukrainian attack on oil terminal in Tuapse
Ukraine's armed forces have attacked the oil terminal at the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse, damaging the loading facility and the Aframax 'Pollux' (IMO: 9243320), the 'Coast Buster' and the Turkish-owned product tanker 'Chai' IMO: (9275402) on the night of Nov 1, 2025. Piston-engined drones, indicative of a long-range aerial UAV strike of the type that Ukraine has used extensively to target Russian oil and gas infrastructure, caused at least three fires burning on the pier or aboard the vessels moored at it. NASA FIRMS fire detection data confirmed a large infrared signature at the facility, visible from space. Tracer fire from ongoing air defense efforts was ongoing well after daybreak on Nov 2, suggesting that the attack continued after several hits. There was a substantial oil spill on the water. A previous strike on the deepater port had occurred in late September, and involved a combined attack of air and surface drones. At least one suicide drone boat made it through Russian defenses and struck a loading pier. Injured sailors medevaced off Gander
The Royal Canadian Air Force was called for a long-range medevac performed under challenging conditions. The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Center in Halifax received the call for assistance from the 'Atlantas II' which was making an Atlantic crossing from Vysotsk to New York. When the call was first received, it was determined that the vessel was out of range, but by Feb 13, 2021, the vessel had reached a point where it would be possible for the Air Force to dispatch a helicopter to the vessel. The injured sailors' condition was considered serious enough to conduct the long-distance mission. The helicopter was required to travel 280 miles to meet up with the tanker. When it arrived on scene, they also encountered challenging weather conditions. Winds were reported up to 40 mph with the seas running approximately 20 to 25 feet. The helicopterβs two pilots maintained its position over the tanker while a flight engineer operated the hoist and two technicians were lowered down to the deck of the tanker to access the situation and prepare the injured sailors to be hoisted to the helicopter. After completing the extradition, the helicopter transported the sailors to a hospital in St. Johnβs where they were reported to be in stable condition. report with photo and video: https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/video-canadian-air-force-performs-long-range-medevac-from-tanker
