Collision with container barge
The 'CMA CGM Niagara', which had sailed from Singapore with 25 crew members on board on Dec 24, 2025, to Hong Kong, was in collision with the barge 'Harbour Jupiter', which was being towed from Port Klang to Sibu, Sarawak, by the tug 'Harbour Dragon' (MMSI: 533132961) with 10 crew members on board, in the Traffic Separation Scheme of the Strait of Malacca and the Strait of Singapore on Dec. 25 at 8.08p.m.. The container ship had lost control before veering towards the barge, which was struck at port side and left listing and half submerged, with some of the container cargo toppöing over or getting flooded. No injuries among the 35 crew members on the ships involved were reported. The 'CMA CGM Niagara' dropped anchor in the waters around Nongsa, Batam. The Batam harbour master and Port Authority Office (KSOP) esponded to the scene and conducted a technical inspection on the vessels and launched an investigation into the incident. The 'CMA CGM Niagara' was allowed to continue its voyage on Jan 2, 2026. It reached the port of destination on Jan 5.
