Climate justice group protested against bulk carrier
The 'Climate Justice' became the centre of an environmental protest on the morning of Oct 30, 2025, at Newcastle. Members of the climate justice group Rising Tide had awaited the ship, when it arrived in the harbour in the early morning on a smaller boat. The group used chalk paint to spray the words ‘Tax Me’ on the bow to call on the federal government to introduce a 78 % fossil fuel export profits tax to fund a community and industrial transition away from polluting coal. The port of Newcastle said that the actions were dangerous. Rising Tide is planning a blockade of the port in November. The 'Climate Justice' has meanwhile left the port en route to Hitachinaka with an ETA as of Nov 14.
