Ferry suffered engine failure

The "Ciudad de Valencia", chartered by Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea on the Cádiz-Canarias route, has sifferd a considerable delay en route to Las Palmas on the night of Oct 15, 2025, due to a failure in one of its engines. It docked at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the assistance of the tugb "VB Tamarán" (IMO: 9361304) at aroudn 8 a.m UTC. Once the ferry had docked, work was commenced to resolve the technical problem, which has recurred since the vessel was put into service five years ago due to the experimental engines, which have caused numerous problems with frequent technical issues. The issue was also affecting the rest of the itinerary, including stops in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santa Cruz de La Palma. However, if the problem can be resolved in a timely manner, the "Ciudad de Valencia" will be able to resume its schedule by reducing its stopover in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma on Oct 17, provided that this does not affect the scheduled loading of refrigerated banana units.

On June 25, 2025, Salvamento Maritimo deployed a Helimer 201 helicopter to evacuate a crew member from the "Ciudad de Valencia," 146 miles northeast of the port of Arrecife, Lanzarote. The response was coordinated by the CNCS (National Commissions of Science and Technology) in Madrid, Las Palmas, and Tenerife. The crew member was transferred to Arrecife, Lanzarote, where he was treated by a medically equipped ambulance for admission to a hospital on the island of volcanoes. The ferry, chartered by Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea for the Cádiz-Canarias route, was sailing towards Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura).

The “Ciudad de Valencia”has a delay of at least 16 hours in the scheduled departure from the port of Arrecife de Lanzarote on its journey to Cádiz in Aug 11, 2024. The captain had an accident in the ship's car deck during loading and unloading operations in the port of Arrecife de Lanzarote, so he had to be evacuated to a hospital in the capital of Lanzarote, where he is currently admitted. Finally, after twelve hours and after the intervention of the Las Palmas Maritime Authority, the Civil Guard, the shipping company Visemar and the Armas Trasmediterránea Group itself, it was decided that the first officer would become captain and that a Spanish captain from the chartering company would board as support.
