Three damaged ferries in Spanish yards
While the “Bentayga Cargo” returnedfrom its first trip to Huelva after the mishap of the “Marie Curie” on Jan 30 in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the damaged ship arrived at the Tenerife Shipyards on Feb 2 in the East dock, where work has commenced to repair part of the damage, so that the Maritime Authority of Tenerife authorizes it to sail to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, to enter the ASTICAN shipyard. The “Ciudad de Ibiza” is also in ASTICAN, where it has beensince Dec 26, 2024, for repairs of the damage it had suffered on Dec 18 during the maneuver to change berths amid strong winds and a pilot on board in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in which it damaged two sections of the hull on the starboard side. It was estimated that the ship may return to the services of the Armas Trasmediterránea Grou this week. The “Volcán de Tauce” has been moored since Jan 14 at the Santa Catalina dock in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, after resolving the technical trouble that altered the La Palma line in December by inserting the catamaran “Volcán de Tirajana”. Ferry repaired at Astican
With the help of the tugs “VB Alborán” at the bow and “VB Mediterráneo” at the stern, from the Boluda Towage fleet in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the “Ciudad de Ibiza” entered the Astican yard, where it will be inspected and the relevant repairs will be carried out, so that it returns to service as soon as possible. Since Dec 18, it has remained docked in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria awaiting its turn at Astican.
Allisionin Las Palmas
On Dec 18, 2024, the ' Ciudad de Ibiza' ran aground on a breakwater at the Cristóbal Colón dock, in the Port of La Luz in Las Palmas, after hitting the dock. A strong gust of wind caused the ship to drift towards the La Esfinge dock, when it was carrying out the docking manoeuvre to begin loading. At the time of the accident there were no passengers aboard, nor cargo. Apart of the external structure was damaged. The CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR tug 'Heroínas de Sálvora' (IMO: 9960112) to the scene. First it was decided to wait for high tide for the ship to leave on its own, but two tugs were able to pull the ferry off, and it was moved to its usual docking area, where it was waiting to assess the damage at the height of the funnel on the starboard side. It had suffered a crack of about two meters just above the closed deck. Moments after the incident, the captain of the ship contacted the Merchant Marine and confirmed that there was a small leak in the trunk of stairs going down to the starboard engine room, which coincided with the impact of the dock. Despite this, the leak was under control. Once the tugs were able to secure the ship, two inspectors from this captaincy assessed the damage and opened an investigation. They asked the company to extract the data from the black box and contacted an underwater inspection company for a better assessment of the damage to the ship's hull. The allision with the jetty has also caused damage to the port infrastructure.
