Ice Eagle in ice collision
The "Ivan Ryabov" was hit into the starbord side stern by the "Ice Eagle" on Feb 26, 20916, in an ice convoy in the Kara Sea. Both vessels were proceeding in ice under escort of the icebreaker "Yamal". When the "Ivan Ryabov" got stuck, she warned the "Ice Eagle", which was sailing in her wake, but the tanker could not stop in time. The cargo ship suffered a buckled poop deck, dented railings and a hull dent of 495Ñ…35Ñ…90 centimeter. The hull was not breached and the vessel, which remained seaworthy and resumed sailing. On Feb 28 at 3 p.m. both vessels had reached in ice-free waters, and the "Ivan Ryabov" was en route to Arkhangelsk, while the "Ice Eagle" proceeded to Murmansk.
