Passenger swept away by waves and died

Dec 20, 2025 16:38

A fatal accident occurred on Dec 18 in Baiona, in which an 85-year-old German passenger of the 'AidaMar', which was anchored in the port of Vigo, died. Although the woman was participating in a shore excursion, she was alone at the time of the accident. Her attempt to take photographs in a rocky area near A Concheira beach ended tragically when a huge wave swept her out to sea. A local resident witnessed the scene at 2:35 p.m. and immediately called the Galicia emergency services. Shortly afterward, the waves washed the tourist's lifeless body back to shore; however, all rescue efforts were unsuccessful. An official orange weather warning was in effect for the Galician coastal region. Winds of up to 70 km/h were present, while waves reached a maximum height of seven meters. https://www.farodevigo.es/comarcas/val-minor/2025/12/18/muere-turista-alemana-selfi-baiona-124933592.html

Medevac on first day of transatlantic crossing

Dec 10, 2025 10:18

During its transatlantic crossing to Europe, the 'AIDAmar' had a medical emergency on board, forcing the ship to change course and head back towards the Caribbean at high speed on the first of six sea days en route from Basseterre to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The patient could not remain on board until the arrival in Tenerife on Dec 15, so the ship's doctors, in close consultation with the bridge crew, decided on a medical evacuation by helicopter. Once the 'AIDAmar' was within range on Dec 9, the outer decks were closed to allow for a safe transfer to the helicopter. Following the medevac, the 'AIDAmar' resumed its regular course with an ETA at the port of Santa Cruz in Tenerife on Dec 15 at 11:30 a.m. The delay on the first of the six sea days back to Europe should be made up for by a slightly increased speed. Tenerife is the third-to-last stop on the voyage, which then continues via Vigo and Cherbourg in France back to Hamburg shortly before Christmas.
