Aidaluna

On the morning of Feb 25, 2026, the wind and wave conditions around the 'AIDAluna''s berth in Funchal, which was moored in the city-facing position at Praça CR7, deteriorated in a way that strong swell caused the ship to rock violently back and forth on its fenders, compromising its safety and potentially causing damage. Therefore, after careful consideration, the bridge crew decided that leaving the port early was the only safe option. They also explored the possibility of using a tender, but the conditions were unsuitable. Since the 'AIDAluna' had been in Funchal overnight, not all passengers were on board; some were ashore. These passengers were contacted by telephone and asked to return to the ship as soon as possible. Two passengers could not be reached. As the situation at the berth worsened, the decision was made to leave the port immediately, which occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. LT. AIDA Cruises took care of the stranded guests and organised their onward travel. The berths in Funchal vary in their susceptibility to certain weather and wave conditions, so unlike the 'AIDAluna', the 'Mein Schiff Relax' from TUI Cruises and the 'Marella Voyager' from Marella Cruises were able to remain at their berths, as these were more sheltered in the current situation. Guests and crew spent a day at sea in perfect weather. As an alternative to the shortened stay in Funchal, AIDA Cruises was able to arrange a stop at another port. On Feb 26, the ship called at Arrecife at 9:00 a.m. This stop was not included in the original itinerary, allowing guests to explore an additional island. AIDA Cruises has organised a shore excursion program, which has been available for booking since 11:00 a.m. After the additional stop in Lanzarote, the scheduled stop in Puerto del Rosario on Fuerteventura was to follow. From then on, the 'AIDAluna' resumes its regular itinerary.

On Sep 21, 2025, the ' AIDAluna' returned to Kiel short time after it had left its berth at Ostsee Quay at around 5 p.m. en rute to Kristiansand and Copenhagen for a medevac. The ship performed a turning maneuver at around 6:20 p.m. after a medical emergency had occurred on board. It was deemed necessary to disembark the person from the 'AIDAluna' as quickly as possible for further treatment ashore. Among several options, the decision was made to return to Kiel and dock again, as the ship was not too far away. At around 7:30 p.m., the ship berthed at the Ostsee Quay again, where the affected person was disembarked. The patient was transferred to an ambulance and transferred to hospital to further medical care on a higher level. The ship departed again at around 8 p.m. and set course for th Kristiansand, where it arrived as scheduled on Sep 23, because the delay caused by the emergency medical disembarkation, could be made up at sea.

The 'AIDAluna', during its 19-day "Highlights at the Arctic Circle" voyage, after setting off from Longyearbyen on June 3, 2025, was notified at around 11 p.m. that a ship was experiencing an emergency near their positiom. Since the 'AIDAluna' was in close proximity, it was activated to provide assistance and set course for the scene. The captain informed the guests via an announcement about the course change and the situation. A helicopter was also requested. The helicopter initially assessed the situation to better assess the next steps. It had to be clarified whether the people could be rescued by helicopter or whether tender boats would have to be sent from the 'AIDAluna'. The crew of the cruise ship was ready for the possible lowering of the tender boats. The medical personnel were also on alert for a possible deployment. The crew of the 'AIDAluna' received notification shortly afterwards that, given the circumstances, the people had been safely rescued by helicopter from the life raft in which they were floating and would be flown to the hospital in Longyearbyen for treatment. The 'AIDAluna' was thus released from the rescue mission and was able to continue its journey, being expected in Akureyri on June 6.

After the arrival of the 'Aidaluna' in Kiel on April 11, a man was taken in custody, when the ship had docked en route from Copenhagen. The 50-year-old was arrested by the federal police. The officers boarded the cruise ship around 10:30 a.m. When they checked the personal details of the passenger from Germany, they discovered that he was being sought. He is accused of embezzling money. The man was therefore placed in custody for remand. He was taken before the judge at the Kiel district court, who confirmed the arrest warrant. The man was taken to prison.

The Kirkwall lifeboat was paged on July 12, 2023, at 4.52 p.m. LT to attend a medevvac from the 'Aidaluna', that had visited the local port earlier in the day. The crew quickly mustered and was on scene at 5.25 p.m. Two trained casualty care crew members boarded the vessel to assist the medical staff on board. The casualty was transferred onto the lifeboat and taken into Kirkwall harbour where they were met and transferred to an ambulance.
