Bulkcarrier assisted distressed yacht

Sep 14, 2016 11:07

The "Ceylon Princess" was involved in a rescue effort on Sep 12, 2016, after a yacht and its two crew were stranded off the Mauritius coast. The ship was en route to Richards Bay to collect a coal consignment for the Norochcholai coal power plant in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka. It had left Singapore on Sep 2 and two days later, northeast of Mauritius heard a Mayday call coming from the yacht "Rebecca" which was also communicating with the Mauritius Coastguard which requested the bulkcarrier to proceed towards the troubled yacht. On reaching the yacht, it was learnt that the power and back-up system has been faulty but the two crew members were safe. The "Ceylon Princess" remained on standby until the Coastguard arrived and thereafter proceeded on its journey.
