Centennial-Harmony

The "Centennial Harmony" which had suffered flooding 250 nautical miles southeast of St. John's, Newfoundland, about Nov 15, arrived at Come by Chance on Nov 19 at 8.15 p.m. It sailed on Nov 21 at 11.45 a.m. bound to Port Talbot, ETA Nov 29.

The "Centennial Harmony" suffered flooding and subsequent engine trouble on Nov 15, 2018, at 2.30 p.m. 270 miles SES from St. John's, Newfoundland, 60 miles from the Terra Nova oilfield in the North Atlantic while en route from Sept-Îles in eastern Quebec, to Port Talbot in the UK. The crew of 21 temporatily prepared to abandon ship before getting the situation back under control. The ship required technical assistance due to the intermittent power issues. Responding to the carrier were a Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft CC-130 Hercules and the Canadian Coast Guard Ship "Sir Wilfred Grenfell". The weather is an issue with poor visibility, high winds and rough seas but conditions were expected to improve. The sea state was reported as being between 18-20 meters that have since abated to about 10-12 meters. Winds were reported at 85 knots and were reported to have decreased to about 65 knots. The supply ship "Maersk Cutter" was about 80 nautical miles away from the "Centennial Harmony" and was on standby to assist if required. The case was being co-ordinated out of Halifax. After being adrift for some hours, the bulkcarrier resumed sailing at 9.30 p.m. at a reduced speed.
