Cement carrier refloated
First attempts to refloat the "Cemstar" on Oct 12 failed. The ship was lucky enough to habe got stuck on a sandbar between two rocks at the southern tip of Hugla. Divers found no major visible damage to the hull, and no oil leaks were observed. In the evening the ship was finally refloated and berthed in Sandnessjoen at 9.50 p.m. The grounding seems to have been caused by a navigational error as the ship sailed directly towards the island before running aground at 6 p.m. on its voyage to Kjøpsvik in Tysfjord with 19 people on board. Both master and chief officer were Norwegians, the rest of the crew was from Poland and the Philippines. The police went on board for interrogations, but there was no suspicion of alcohol at the helm.
