Ferry breached in allision

In the morning of March 16, 2017, around 5 a.m. the "Poeta López Anglada" allided with with the ferry "Ciudad de Málaga", when both ships were at the berths 4 and 5 of the port of Algeciras. A wind gust of up to 80 km/h caught the ship and pushed the stern of the "Poeta López Anglada" against the "City of Málaga" which was breached above the water line at starboard side had to be taken out of operation. A steel sheet first had to be welded onto the damaged hull. Search for missing passenger called off

The search for a missing passenger who fell from the "Ciudad de Malaga" in the Bay of Gibraltar has been called off. Teams from the Port Authority, RGP, GDP, HM Customs, Royal Navy, Gibraltar Squadron and Environment Agency joined Spain’s Salvamento Maritimo scouring waters following the incident in the evening of Mar 5. The passenger was believed to have fallen from the ferry when she was leaving Algeciras. Crews searched an area 2.2 nautical miles west-southwest of Europa Point, with Gibraltar vessels continuing the hunt until Mar 6 at 11 p.m. Gibraltar’s multiple agencies came together to work on an extensive and coordinated search but to no avail.

Civil Guard personnel and other forces were searching for a person who has fallen from the "Ciudad de Malaga" in the waters of the Bay of Algeciras on Mar 5, 2017. Helicopters and ships were searching the area near Europa Point.
