Tanker damaged by pirates
The 'Cascade Spirit' was approached and fired at by armed pirates in a skiff in position 01 13 36.0N, 006 09 36.0E, 57 miles north-northwest of Sao Tome & Principe, on Nov 7, 2019, at 12.15 a.m. Subsequently, the alarm was raised, the tanker increased speed and commenced evasive anti-piracy manoeuvers. The tanker's fire pump was activated, and four parachute rockets were discharged. Due to the actions of the Master and crew, the skiff aborted its attack and moved away. The tanker and the crew were safe. However, it's accommodation bulkhead was hit by bullets during the attack.
