Tug's crew stranded in Ceuta
The crew of the "Independence" was being stranded in Ceuta since Feb 2, 2016, with the tug obviously abandoned by the owners. The crew consists of eight Indonesian and Ukrainian sailors, with at least four months wage debts. Local charities helped them with food and water, as the ship’s own supplies ran out a long time ago. After the Portuese authorities became aware of the crew’s plight, the consulate provided the crew with food and water. The Italian owner was avoiding contact. Lawyers said the vessel may be auctioned. The Indonesian Embassy promised to assist in the seafafrers repatriation.
