The duty officer of the "Po Yang Hu", while the ship was heading east in the Gulf of Aden, noticed a suspicious mother vessel and two skiffs, with two men on board each, approaching the tanker, in position 013 27 56N, 050 13 53E, on Nov 2, 2018, at 12.40 p.m. The duty officer informed the master, who activated security measures by initiating the deck water spray, broadcasting the security situation via VHF Ch16 and stationed three armed guards on the bridge. In addition, the master commenced the lock-down procedure, and informed the company's chief security officer and the UKMTO of the situation. When the tanker commenced anti-piracy manoeuvres and increased speed, the mother vessel and its two skiffs broke off the pursuit.
