Crew member killed in explosion
On Nov 11, 2019, an explosion occurred aboard the 'Cape India' while she was under way off the coast of East Kalimantan, claiming the life of one Chinese crew member. At 5 p.m. the command center for Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency in Basarnas received a request for assistance from the bulkcarrier after the explosion in which the man had been badly injured and required medical evacuation. Basarnas' central command center forwarded the alert to the agency's station in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. On Nov 12 at 4 a.m. a joint response team of Basarnas personnel, military servicemembers and health care providers got under way to rendezvous with the 'Cape India'. At 05.40 a.m. the victim was dropped off to the responders' rescue launch using a rope, and the team got under way for the return trip to Balikpapan. During the return voyage, the team determined that the victim had been deceased for some time. They arrived at Semayang Port at 8 a.m. and transferred the victim to a local hospital. Basarnas has identified the victim as the Chinese national He Fengzhi, 26. The bulk carrier continued on its way from Dampier to Hua Shan with an ETA as of Nov 17.
Crew member died in explosion
A Chinese crew member of the 'Cape India' was severely injured in a gas explosion on Oct 28, 2019. The ship was transiting the Makassar Strait, en route from Tang Shan to Port Walcott. The ship reported the accident to Indonesian Maritime Authorities and requested a medevac. It was directed to Balikpapan in Eastern Kalimantan. The victim was transferred to a lifeboat on Oct 29 at 4 a.m., but was declared dead by paramedics short time later. His body was delivered to a hospital in Balikpapan. The ship left the Balikpapan area and resumed the voyage around midnight.

Taiwanese carrier U-Ming Marine announced today to take delivery of two 188,000dwt bulk carriers Cape Europe and Cape India. The two ships, built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, are the third and fourth units of the eight 188,000dwt carriers U-ming contracted at the yard
