Breakdown off Tarifa
On March 23, 2026, the 'Canga Star', enroute from Ceuta to Huelva, suffered a breakdown and went adrift in the Strait of Gibraltar within the Tarifa TSS, about 2.7 nautical miles off the coast. The CCS Tarifa of Salvamento Marítimo mobilised the SAR vessel 'Punta Mayor' (IMO: 8305066) to escort it and issued safety alerts, while repairs were carried out on board. After several hours of work, the crew fixed the breakdown, regained propulsion, and the ship resumed its voyage, arriving in the port of destination the same day.
