Tanker held in Guayamas for sampling of cargp

Oct 08, 2025 12:29

The 'BW Wren' was being held in the port of Guaymas while federal authorities conducted tests on its cargo and sampling, as it was unclear what the ship was carrying. The tanker arrived at the Pemex terminal in Guaymas on Oct 1, 2025, enroute from La Paz, Baja California, where it had unloaded gasoline allegedly imported from Taiwan. The ship declared 148,000 tons of regular and premium gasoline (80,000 tons of regular gasoline and 30,000 tons of premium gasoline), despite its total capacity of more than 51 tons. The 'BW Wren's voyage began in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sep 8. A week later, it crossed the Panama Canal, remained anchored offshore off Manzanillo, Colima, and subsequently stopped at the Pemex terminals in Topolobampo and Mazatlán. On Sep 27, the ship arrived in La Paz, Baja California, where it remained for two days before sailing to Guaymas, where its extraordinary arrival was scheduled at the request of the shipping agency Navecopa. The Navecopa company, which is part of Tramitadora del Pacífico, which partnered with the Tampico Terminal Marítima in 2019 to manage the multipurpose terminal and fiscal docks at the Port of Tampico, is under investigation by the Attorney General's Office for alleged fuel smuggling and owes 130 million pesos to the National Port System Administration (Asipona).
