Bw-Tucana

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) reported on Oct 18, about the deaths of two crew members in separate incidents aboard the Panama flagged 'Monserrat' and the 'BW Tucana'. The cases were handled on Oct 17 by the technical staff of the Maritime Accident Investigation Department, attached to the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine, in coordination with the Attorney General's Office. The authorities were following the corresponding international protocols to clarify the circumstances of the events. One case involved the Chief Engineer Yashvendra Nath Sharma, an Indian citizen, who died on Oct 7 while serving aboard the 'BW Tucana', while the vessel was transiting international waters en route to Panama. The ship arrived at the port of Balboa on the evening of Oct 17, and the relevant authorities conducted the necessary investigations. Preliminary reports suggested that the cause of death was a heart failure. Once the investigation has been completed, the Indian Embassy in Panama would coordinate with the shipping company to repatriate Sharma's body. The other incident occurred aboard the fishing vessel 'Monserrat', aboard which the 68-year-old sailor Abdiel Delgado lost his life while the vessel was sailing off Chame Bay, on the morning of Oct 17. Following the vessel's arrival at the port of Vacamonte, the Ombudsman's Office removed the body. According to preliminary investigations, the death was due to natural causes, presumably cardiac arrest.
