A crew member of the "Broog", who was suffering from severe abdominal pain, was evacuated from the ship and was recovering at a private hospital in the city. The "Broog" sailing from Ras Laffan, Qatar to Futussu with LNG in its cargo on April 11, 2019, when the captain Wilfreo A Sales sent a message from 300 nautical miles off the Mangaluru coast, to the Coast Guard headquarters at Panambur here, seeking medical repatriation of an able seaman (AS) who was suffering from an inflamed appendix. The Coast Guard, New Mangalore Port's deputy conservator, traffic manager, harbour master and customs department swung into action and evacuated Regoita Arwen A, a Filipino. He underwent surgery at the AJ institute of medical sciences and research centre.
