Container ship ran aground at Djibouti
The 'Africa Sun', operating regular routes between the ports of Djibouti, Jeddah, Port Sudan, Massawa, Jebel Ali, and Port Khalifa, ran aground at the port of Djibouti on Oct 19, 2025. The Port authorities responded swiftly to the incident, ensuring no injuries or environmental damage occurred. The container ship could be successfully refloated. Operations at the port have have since returned to normal. On Oct 15, the Djibouti Ship Repair Yard (DSRY) had started maintenance operations on the ship, which included hull and underwater inspections, electrical and automation systems, structural and deck repairs, tank and piping systems and safety and regulatory compliance.
