Celtic Endeavour sailing again
The "Celtic Endeavour" was again outward in the Humber on Apr 28 in the morning. She had arrived on the Humber on April 13 but grounded beyond her intended berth at Grove Wharf in stormy conditions on the evening of Apr 14. An attempt to refloat her with local tugs the following day failed. With receding tides the vessel remained aground until she was able to refloat herself on a sufficiently high tide on Apr 24. The ship had suffered no damage while being aground. After taking cargo in Gunness she sailed from Blacktoft Jetty bound for Figueira Da Foz with an ETA of Mar 3.
Grounded freighter refloated ahead of salvage operation
A salvage operation to refloat the "Celtic Endeavour" had been planned in the evening of Apr 24, involving the Willie Group, Association of British Ports, Groveport and tug boat companies. The plan was to pull the boat free when the tide came in, while making sure it did not float away if the rudder had become damaged. However, the early tide meant that the ship came free without assistance, with the pilot on board to guide it to a safe spot. The water came higher and sooner than expected. The ship was fine and in full working condition, with no damage to the engine or rudder. The eight-strong crew of the "Celtic Endeavour" stayed aboard while it was stuck on the Trent.
