Bulk carrier rescued trawler crew
The crew of the 'African Turaco' has rescued seven Sri Lankan fishers from the trawler 'Ruhunu Kumari 6' (MMSI:10738603), which had left Wennappuwa on Aug 8 for fihsing and had caught fire off the Galle Lighthouse, west of Sri Lanka, on Aug 11, 2023.The MRCC at the Navy Headquarters, had directed the bulk carrier to the fishing trawler, on fire, soon after the crude oil tanker 'Saiq' had notified it about the incident about 58 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse. The castaways were brought to Galle harbor on Aug 12 by the SLNS 'Gajabahu' which had been deployed to take them aboard from the bulk carrier.
