First ship of UN World Food Program arrived from Ukraine in Djibouti

The 'Brave Commander', chartered by the UN World Food Program, arrived in Djibouti on Aug 30 with 23,000 tons of wheat on board, which after unloading will be delivered to consumers in Ethiopia. The Ministry of Infrastructure of the Ukraine announced: “Since signing the Grains Initiative, we have understood Ukraine's global nutritional responsibility to the world, especially to countries in Africa and Asia that are in the throes of humanitarian catastrophe. Therefore, in close cooperation with the UN, we have already shipped two ships with more than 50,000 tons of agricultural products to help the people of Ethiopia and Yemen. For our part, we ensure the fastest and most efficient process of picking up, loading and transporting these vessels. Such transports are an undisputed priority for us. We continue to work with the United Nations World Food Program to increase the volume of food aid. I am grateful to our partners for their cooperation,” noted Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov. On Aug 16 the bulk carrier had left the port of Pivdenny. In addition, the second ship chartered by the UN World Food Program left the port on Aug 30. On board the bulk carrier 'Kateria' were 37.500 tons of wheat for the needs of the people of Yemen. In general, during the implementation of the initiative on safe transportation of agricultural products, 61 ships have already cast off from Ukrainian ports. Around 1.5 million tons of food are on board these ships.

The 'Brave Commander', the first humanitarian ship chartered by the United Nations to transport 23.700 tons of Ukrainian wheat, has lfeft the port of Pivdennyi on Aug 16 bound for Djibouti with an ETA as of Aug 25. The shipment will be delivered to Ethiopia. This is the first shipment of food aid to leave Ukraine since agreements were signed in July by Kyiv and Moscow, via Turkish mediation and under the aegis of the UN, on the export of Ukrainian cereals, blocked because of the Russian war against the Ukraine. First UN ship ready to sail from Ukraine to Ethiopia

The first UN ship for grain deliveries from Ukraine, the 'Brave Commander' has been loaded with 23.000 tons wheat and was ready to sail from Yuzhne, bound for Ethiopia. The ship had left Istanbul on Aug 10, 2022m ahd had arrived in port on Aug 12 at 6.40 p.m. A spokesman for the UN World Food Program (WFP) took the opportunity to express the hope that this first delivery would be the start of regular grain deliveries from Ukraine to regions of the world particularly threatened by hunger.
