Tanker rescued seven Cubans
On Apri, 11, 2023, the 'Bow Summer', headed from Lake Charles for Houston. rescued seven Cuban migrants who had been adrift on a raft in the Yucatan Channel for several days, with heavy rain and bad weather. The homemade boat was barely visible and didn't show up on radar, so the "Bow Summer" had to change course to further investigate. The crew then realized that it was a small inflatable boat, with seven people on board, that was 100 nautical miles from land between Mexico and Cuba. They were without food or water and about to be taken further out to sea. They were brought on board and provided with dry clothing, food and water. Then they were allowed to inform their families that they were safe. The ship contacted the US authorities and upon arrival in Houston the migrants were received and registered. The cooperation worked well and ensured that their health and safety were taken care of in the best possible way. The Norwegian crew received the United States Coast Guard Certificate of Merit for the rescue of the seven Cubans.
