Fire crews dampened smouldering coal for six hours

Oct 16, 2018 10:22

Fire crews spent six hours dampening 1.000 tonnes of coal inside the “Liangchow” on Oct 15. Six crews from the Auckland city area attended the fire at the Freyberg wharf after receiving a call about smoke coming from a ship at 9.20 a.m. A fire was found in a coal bunker on the ship. One crew dealt with the fire to stop any spread or damage to the ship, while others prepared to cool the coal and transport it off site. The crews were at the scene until 3.20 p.m. dampening down the coal with fire appliances, making sure everything was correctly extinguished.
