Tanker aground on Columbia River
The US Coast Guard responded to the "Argent Cosmos" which ran aground on the Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington. The tanker lost its fuel pump and ran aground about 33 miles downriver from the Port of Longview and perhaps 45 miles from the mouth of the Columbia River at 6:28 a.m. on July 6, 2017. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sector Columbia River flew over the vessel at 9 a.m. and found no signs of pollution. There were no reports of injuries. The "Argent Cosmos" was heading out from a stop in Longview when the incident happened. It was loaded with 6170 tons ethanol and 25170 tons monoethylene glycol. It also carried 17 tons of high-sulfur oil and 0,4 tons of low-sulfur oil. Coast Guard officials ordered the vessel to stay in place even after the tide-water rises so inspectors can ensure the safety of the environment. A 29-foot boat from the Station Cape Disappointment was en route to the vessel with a Sector Columbia River inspections team. Tugs were deployed to start a salvage attempt with the rising water level. On scene were the "Mule" (MMSI: 367767410), "Sommer S" (IMO: 9669811) and "Willamette" (IMO: 8972998) as well as the anti pollution vessel "Mark O. Hatfield" (MMSI: 338085242) and the patrol boat "CG 29230" (MMSI: 369990230). After the tanker was pulled off, it was berthed at the Longview Port Authority General Cargo Terminals.
