Tanker violated North Sea Route Navigational Safety Rules

Apr 20, 2018 09:51

Thge "Boris Vilkitsky" grossly violated the North Sea Route Navigational Safety Rules by entering the Kara Sea, while en route to Sabetta LNG Plant, with serious deficiencies, which reduced the ship’s ice class and restricted sailing in ice conditions. The ship has inoperative stern thrusters and port steering column since March 10, 2018, according to a Bureau Veritas report and cannot navigate in the Kara Sea but in fact sailed to Sabetta. On Apr 16 she completed cargo operations, loading an LNG shipment bound for France. On Apr 20 the tanker was still anchored off Sabetta, probably having been detained.
