Tanker grounded off Zeebrugge
The "Sea Bay", enroute from the Hound Point Terminal, U.K., to Antwerp with a cargo of crude oil, ran onto a sandbank eight kilometers off the coast of Zeebrugge on Feb 9, 2018, at 4.50 a.m. following an engine black out with subsequent loss of power. During the following high tide four tugboats refloated the ship which was towed further outside the fairway off Ostend for investigations. No structural damage has been detected on the tanker. Shipping was diverted locally, but there were no delays. At noon the technical problems have been resolved and the Common Nautical Authority (GNA) has given the ship permission to continue its course to its destination Antwerp. It will nevertheless be taken to Zeebrugge for inspection to berth 205-206 at the Westerhoofd in the outer harbour. Actually the tugs "Southampton" (IMO: 9816672) and "Multratug 14" (IMO: 9360594) were still on site.
