Ferry suffered ramp issues
The 'Blue Wave Harmony' could not start its scheduled voyage from Port of Spain to Tobago due to technical issues with the hydraulic system with the ramp on Feb 20, 2026. 36 truckers were told to return in order to remove their trucks from the ship again. The ferry was due to sail from the Scarborough Port only on Feb 22 and arrived in San Juan early on Feb 23.
New ferry arrived in Port of Spain
The 'Blue Wave Harmony', which as been chartered to replace the 'Cabo Star' on the seabridge, arrived on Jan 22 at the Port of Port of Spain. The ferry will provide increased cargo capacity, enhanced refrigerated storage, and improved passenger accommodations, including cabins and onboard amenities. It is also expected to improve operational reliability, with upgraded systems and built-in redundancies designed to reduce mechanical downtime, which had been a longstanding concern for freight operators and travellers. The Tobago Division of the TT Chamber of Industry and Commerce welcomed the arrival of the vessel, seeing it as a positive and timely development for inter-island cargo movement. The 'Cabo Star' had left on Jan 12. Report with photo: https://newsday.co.tt/2026/01/23/blue-wave-harmony-arrives-to-service-seabridge/
Ferry chartered for Trinidad-Tobago route
The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has chartered the 'Blue Wave Harmony', which had served on the route Iskenderun-Haifa until November 2025, to replace the 'Cabo Star' (IMO 8500680) when its lease has expired on Jan12, 2026, representing a significant upgrade, with four main engines to improve redundancy and reduce service disruptions, as well as heavier-duty loading ramps to accommodate bulk and specialised cargo. The ferry was expected to arrive in Trinidad around Jan 18, subject to weather conditions and the completion of regulatory and operational clearances. According to the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), the acquisition followed a managed procurement process aimed at improving operational compatibility at the ports in Port of Spain and Scarborough, while increasing cargo capacity, passenger comfort, safety and reliability. In the interim, the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company Limited has implemented contingency arrangements using existing vessels, including the 'A.P.T. James', 'T&T Spirit' and 'Galleons Passage' in order to ensure the continued movement of essential cargo between Trinidad and Tobago. The 'Blue Wave Harmony' is certified to transport dangerous and specialised cargo and will not require scheduled dry-docking in 2026, allowing for uninterrupted operations. The upgraded facilities were expected to create opportunities for local employment and service providers. The National Infrastructure Development Company (Nidco) had entered into an agreement with the Panamanian ship owner to lease the vessel for an initial period of 12 months. It sailed from Port Said on Dec 29, 2025, reached Limassol on Jan 1 and was due to arrive in Las Palmas on Jan 12.
Fire in generator room
In the night of Aug 25, 2019, the "European Seaway" had a small fire in one of her generator rooms at the Reparation Navale in Dunkirk. The local fire brigade was called to tackle the blaze. There was no information about the amount of damage, but there were no injuries. It now looked, however, looked unlikely that the ferry was to move to the Larne-Cairnyan route next week where she should have released the "European Causeway" for a scheduled dry docking.
Former ferry broke lose from moorings and damaged gangway
The "European Seaways" on Jan 9, 2015, around 11 a.m. broke off its moorings at the Sea Bath Bridge in Cuxhaven in gale force gusts from west. As a precaution, the master had the engine warm and could immediately react. Also a Pilot had already been ordered, but could not board the ship as the gangway had torn off, crashed down and was damaged when the hotel and service ship broke lose. He was then transferred aboard by a pilot boat. For some hours the ship was held on the anchorage off Cuxhaven. A Wulf tug transferred the broken wires back onto the vessel which remained on the anchorage on Jan 10 before being reberthed. Ferry became accomodation vessel
The "European Seaway" is to become an accommodation vessel for the wind farm industry. The company has converted the roll-on roll-off vessel to serve technicians working offshore in the North Sea. Earlier in May 2012 the ship started a three-month charter with Centrica Renewable Energy Limited after having hull access doors, cranes and boarding ladders installed during a short refit at the Arno shipyard in Dunkerque. Cabins were upgraded and the charterers' managers have been provided with onboard offices. It is the first contract the Dover-based firm has secured in the wind energy market. For the charter period the ship will be anchored seven kilometres off Skegness. Technicians will live on board while undertaking maintenance and operations activities at the Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farm Array. The addition of access doors and specialist boarding and lifting equipment complements the ship's huge vehicle decks, which make ideal storage space for containers, spare parts and equipment for the maintenance of wind turbines and their huge supporting structures. The ship is being supplied to Centrica on a time charter basis, which means she will be manned by P&O deck, technical and catering crew, who will provide hotel services to Centrica staff.
