Tanker assisted in rescue of 60 migrants
On Feb 8, 2025, at 8.30 p.m. the 'Bitu Express', en route from Nouakchott to Cadiz, was diverted to a migrant boat which was heading to the Canary Islands from El Aaiún. The MRCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas mobilized the 'Guardamar Urania' to the scene. At 10.12 p.m. the bitumen tanker sighted some lights and located a boat full of people. It was instructed to escort it until the arrival of the 'Guardamar Urania' and not to intervene unless he considered it necessary. At 12.40 a.m. the SAR boat rescued the 60 people on board the rubber boat. The 'Bitu Express' was then released and resumed its voyage. At 3.30 a.m. the migrants were disembarkedd in Arguineguín.
Medevac off Cádiz
The crew of the helicopter Helimer 220 medevaced an injured crew member from the "Bitu Express" 135 miles off Cádiz on Jan 7, 2018. The tanker was enroute from Lome to Tarragona.
