Explosion and fire on bulk carrier
The 'Berge Yotei' suffered an explosion and fire in the cargo hold on May 2, 2021, in the South Pacific, Northwest of the Magellan Strait. The ship timewise went adrift after the incident. The explosion damaged the pontoons/hatch covers, and it was unclear whether the cargo was damaged. The ship was enroute from San Lorenzo to Marsden Point with a cargo of soymeal with an ETA as of May 22. On May 3 the ship had resumed sailing, but was diverted to Talcahuano On May 6 at 2.30 p.m. the ship moored off the port in pos. 36° 40.26' N 073° 4.30' W.
