Disabled bulkcarrier under tow to Cape Town
The "Pacific Queen" which had sailed from Porto Do Acu on Feb 23, 2019, in loaden condition bound for Singapore, was disabled and went adrift on Feb 28, roughly halfway between Brazil and Cape Town, The SAR tug "SA Amandla" (IMO: 7385215) was contracted for towage to to Cape Town. IT connected on March 8 with an ETA as of March 26.
Medevac off Port Elizabeth
On Dec 29, 2015, at 4 a.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew was activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for medical assistance from the "Pacific Queen" reporting a 30 year old Ethiopian crewman to be suffering suspected Malaria. The NSRI Port Elizabeth dispatched a sea rescue craft, accompanied by EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedics, to rendezvous with the vessel 15 nautical miles off-shore and the patient was brought safely to shore in a stable condition aboard the sea rescue craft and transported to hospital by EMS ambulance.
