The KM 'Bintang Mas HSB 7', carryinga cargo of fertilizer, caught fire at Pier 202 in Ujung Baru, Belawan Port, on April 10, 2026, at 11.52 a.m. The incident occurred as the ship was preparing to unload. The fire caused panic among dock workers at the location. Initial efforts to extinguish the fire were carried, before Pelindo officers, along with the Medan City Government Fire Department, were deployed to tackle the blaze. One fire engine from the Pelindo Belawan Branch, two tugs and two fire engines belonging to the Medan City Government were deployed to the scene along with one fire engine from the Pelindo Belawan Branch. The fire, accompanied by thick smoke, was extinguished around 5:30 p.m. WIB, after a coordinated response by several relevant parties from the quay and with fire boats. The incident did not disrupt port activities. The oort authorities were still investigating to determine the cause of the ship fire. No injuries were reported.
