Cargo ship rescued 320 migrants

Dec 06, 2014 21:52

The "Erasmusgracht" has rescued 320 migrants adrift in a boat in the Mediterranean Sea on Dec 6, 2014. The ship was heading from Izmir to Gdynia when it spotted the boat carrying the migrants, some 250 miles south east of the Italian coast. It had been drifting for two days after the motor failed. The crew had left in a motor boat, leaving their passengers to fend for themselves. Some of the people on board were in a bad way, including several children. They had food on board but nothing to drink and several had drunk sea water. The "Erasmusgracht" was moored off the coast of Sicily and berthed in Catania at 5 p.m. to disembark the migrants.
