Trawler lost crew member over board
A crew member of the 'Amaltal Mariner' was lost at sea after being knocked overboard by a float while deploying fishing gear on the evening of April 5, 2026, about 215 nautical miles east of the Auckland Islands, while the trawler was fishing south of Stewart Island/Rakiura. The ship has returned to the port of Bluff on April 8, after searching for the missing for several days. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) sent a team of investigators to Bluff to gather evidence and interview the vessel’s crew and officials. The crew was met by the police upon the arrival of the vessel.
