BP Starts North Sea Oil Project That Will Help Double Its U.K. Output

May 25, 2017 11:32

(Bloomberg) — BP Plc started a project in the U.K. North Sea that will restore production halted since 2013 and help double the company’s output in the area by the end of the decade. The Quad 204 project includes the construction and installation of the world’s largest harsh water floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, named ‘Glen Lyon’. BP and its partners budgeted 4.4 billion pounds ($5.7 billion) for the Quad 204 project, which involved building a new floating production and supply vessel and redeveloping the aging Schiehallion and Loyal fields. Output from Quad 204 will ramp up to 130,000 barrels of oil a day this year, the London-based company said in an emailed statement Monday. The producer plans to double its U.K. North Sea output to 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day by 2020, the company said. Volumes from the region, one of the world’s most expensive areas for finding and extracting oil, have shrunk in the past decade as older fields deteriorated and exploration spending dropped with crude’s three-year decline. BP partner Royal Dutch Shell Plc said earlier this year that it was selling a majority of its North Sea positions.

BP's Glen Lyon FPSO Hook-up Underway

Aug 01, 2016 19:04

Mechanical engineering specialist EnerMech said it is in the process of delivering a £5-million-plus contract to support the turret delivery team on BP’s Glen Lyon FPSO, which has arrived for hook-up operations West of Shetland. The Glen Lyon is a key element of the multibillion pound Quad204 project, which includes redeveloping the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, extending production out to 2035 and possibly beyond. http://www.marinelink.com/news/underway-hookup-lyon413314.aspx

Glen Lyon FPSO sets sail for UK

Dec 11, 2015 09:48

BP has reached a major milestone with its Quad 204 redevelopment project 175km west of Shetland. The firm's new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, the Glen Lyon, has left Hyundai Heavy Industries' yard in South Korea and started sea trials, ahead of setting sail for the UK sector. At 270m-long and 52m-wide, the unit is one of the largest FPSOs in the North Sea. Watch a construction time lapse video of the FPSO below. Schiehallion was discovered in 1993, and Loyal a year later, with production starting in 1998 from the Schiehallion FPSO, which the Glen Lyon will replace. Schiehallion and Loyal together had more than a billion barrels in place and recovery to date had been about 15%. http://www.oedigital.com/component/k2/item/11090-glen-lyon-fpso-sets-sail
