Search for missing captain
The captain of the Cape Bonavista went missing on July 6, 2024, at 10.46 p.m. LT in the waters of Lubang island, Occidental Mindoro. The Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) has launched a search and rescue operation for the Ukrainian. On July 7, the BRP Malapascua (MRRV-4403) was deployed by the Coast Guard District National Capital Region, Central Luzon. The vessel used its thermal scanner and set up a parallel search pattern to locate the missing captain. The Coast Guard also coordinated with the Philippines Navy Littoral Monitoring Station for assistance. On July 8, the BRP Malapascua continued the search operation in the nearby waters, but could not find the captain.Subsequently, the vessel returned to its station to refuel before resuming the search operation.
