Fire on training ship
On Jan 16, 2026, the TS 'Patriot State' suffered a fire involving the ship’s incinerator. The fire was quickly and successfully extinguished using the vessel’s fixed water mist system and portable dry chemical extinguishers. Crew and cadets responded using proper training and established safety protocols, to manage the situation promptly and effectively. The Academy’s emphasis on safety and emergency-response training prepares cadets to work closely with the professional crew, and that training contributed to the immediate and effective management of the incident. Sea Term will continue as planned, official updates are posted on the Academy website: https://www.maritime.edu/sea-term Â
