Min-Hua-9

The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) medically evacuated the 55-year-old Chinese crew member Hanzhong Shan, of the 'Min Hua 9', who was electrocuted, in the waters off Zamboanga City on Jan. 6, 2026. He had been greasing the hatch cover of the vessel using an electric-powered oil dispenser when he fainted due to electrical shock. The victim collapsed and the lubricant oil dispenser fell over him. Another crew managed to quickly cut off the electric power connecting the dispenser. The Coast Guard District had received a distress call from the vessel at around 10:20 a.m. It then deployed the BRP 'Tubbataha (MRRV 4401)' with the SWM’s medical team and nursing service sub-unit from Bengo Wharf in Zamboanga City at 11:06 a.m., reaching the 'Min Hua 9 at 11:30 a.m.' about five nautical miles rom the port. The patient was retrieved and brought to the Bengo Wharf at 12:07 p.m., where he was turned over to the Bureau of Quarantine along with the SWM medical team. “He was then rushed to the nearest hospital for further treatment.
