Mystery tanker re-emerged after capture of Maduro
The 'Marbella', the position of which had been a mystery for more than a year, turned on its transponder during the weekend of Jan 10/11, 2026, to reveal it was in fact off the coast of Venezuela, loaded with 1.9 million barrels of oil. The 'Marbella' re-emerged as part of efforts by the US government and commodity traders Vitol Group and Trafigura Group to move the crude to markets. The 'Marbella', which was hauling crude entrusted to the Vitol Group for sale, was on its way to the South Riding Point storage complex in the Bahamas.
