Begonia-Seaways

On Sep 9, 2017, at 11.45 a.m. the "Begonia Seaways", which had sailed from Gothenburg to Terneuzen on Sep 8, was disabled due to a blackout of the electricity and ran aground on the Gent-Terneuzen Canal at the Sluiskil bridge on the side of Terneuzen. Two tugs and a boat from Rijkswaterstaat were on the spot to assist refloating the ship. At 1.30 p.m. the captain accepted a towing contract of Multraship, and the ship was pulled out of the embankment by some tugs within 15 minutes. At 2 p.m. the ferry berthed at the Zevernaar port Verbrugge. The ship traffic on the canal was delayed. On Mar 9, 2016, at 5.15 p.m. the "Begonia Seaways" allided with a red fairway buoy off the beach of Flushing and got very close to the shore thereby. Damage remained, however, rather small.
