As the 'Mustafa Kemal' was not able to refloat under its own power, a tug and salvage team were called from Iskenderun to provide assistance. Upon completion of an initial damage survey and an inspection of the grounding site, a towing connection was established and the vessel pulled to a repair yard in Iskenderun on Feb 1 at 7 p.m. A detailed damage survey was under progress. An incident investigation file was placed by the Harbour Master's incident investigation desk. The vessel has been imposed a fine due to a breach of safe navigation regulations. Six days after its engine failure at Mersin, the 'Mustafa Kemal 1' dragged anchor and drifted ashore with a crew of 10 on board at the Hatay waterfront north of Iskenderun in the Dörtyol district on Jan 30 in pos. 36° 48.59' N 036° 11.01' E. Strong storm in the area was the cause of grounding at the Öğmeiş beach. A salvage operation was due to start soon.
