Engine trouble off Port Louis
The 'Skylight' suffered an engine problem east of Mauritius en route from Singapore to Abijan, Ivory Coast on July 11, 2021, the master asked the Mauritius Maritime Authorities for a permission to call at Port Louis for repairs. The permission was granted, and the ship proceeded to the port under own power, albeit at a speed of about 2-4 knots.
10 crew members taken hostage by pirates
The "Skylight" was attacked by pirates in the Bight of Biafra on Dec 14, 2017, at 9 a.m. in the vicinity of pos. 03 47N 006 19E, 38 miles south of Brass. The bulkcarrier was under pirates control for about an hour, they kidnapped 10 crew members and fled. The senior officers including the master were among the hostages. The remainder of the crew took the vessel to Port Harcourt where it docked on Dec 1. The ship was en route from Lagos to Port Harcourt.
