Intertuna-Tres

Somali pirates attempted to attack the ‘Intertuna Tres’ on Nov 2, 2025, at 5.45 p.m. LT. The crew of the tuna vessel spotted a speedboat approaching them from a mothership, believed to be the Iranian-flagged dhow ‘Issa Mohamadi’, which was hijacked by the pirates last month. The four attackers identified themselves as pirates, and a dhow was detected nearby, which could have been acting as a mother ship. Faced with the threat, the ship's crew immediately activated established security protocols and executed evasive and protective maneuvers. Security forces onboard the ‘Intertuna Tres’ fired shots at the pirates’ speedboat, after which they returned to the mothership, aborting the attempted boarding without any personal or material damage. The 'Intertuna Tres' continued its operations as normal, and all crew members were in perfect health. The Albacora group immediately reported the incident to the relevant authorities, with whom they maintained close collaboration.

On Nov 21, 2010, private security aboard the "Intertuna III" on fought off a pirate attack while it sailed in the Indian Ocean. The attack took place in the early morning around 400 miles off the coast of Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago. The pirate skiffs pursued the vessel, which belongs to the Albacora company based in Bermeo (Biscay) for 45 minutes during which there was an exchange of fire, though fortunately nobody aboard the ship was injured. The incident is the 7th attack to be carried out on a Basque tuna ship in the last two weeks. On Nov 13, the "Albacán", which also belongs to the Albacora group, managed to escape yet another hijack attempt by pirates.
